Baldwin And Petri React To State Of The Union Address

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin says the president delivered a strong call for action in his State of the Union Address to build a fairer economy, to expand opportunity for everyone, and to grow the middle class. She is also pleased that the President wants to raise the minimum wage. Congressman Tom Petri of Fond du Lac disagrees that raising the minimum wage is the best approach to helping low income workers. He says it’s something that needs to be debated. He says those workers should have the means to support themselves, but we should consider how to put our money behind our generosity. He says it would put all the costs on businesses. He says that could mean eliminating the jobs working families need to move up the economic ladder. Petri says there are other options including the Earned Income Tax Credit and wage subsidy proposals that can be explored.
