Baldwin Joins Effort To Outlaw Stock Trading By Sitting Lawmakers

US Senator Tammy Baldwin has joined a push to make it illegal for sitting US lawmakers to trade in stocks while in office.

The Wisconsin Democrat says the proposed legislation would require that lawmakers, their spouses, and their children would have to put their stock holdings into a blind trust while in office.

“It ensures that I can’t use Insider information to influence their personal stock trades and make a profit.”

Baldwin says it also lessens the temptation for lawmakers to influence policy in Congress solely to increase the value of their stock holdings.
