Ballot Drop Box Issue Likely Headed To Court

The issue of absentee ballot drop boxes in Wisconsin will likely be resolved in court.

The state Elections Commission, made up three Democrats and three Republicans, deadlocked Friday on motions to withdraw its current guidance on absentee ballot drop boxes, or to issue an emergency rule regarding their use.

A Waukesha County judge recently ruled ballot drop boxes illegal, but a state appeals court said they could be used for February 15 primary elections. The state Supreme Court is considering whether to take up the case.
