Beekeeping Ordinance Changed

The Fond du Lac City Council this week approved a change to the City’s beekeeping ordinance. City Attorney Deb Hoffman explained to the City Council that the ordinance required beekeepers to have some type of training preferably through a technical college or university. But she says there are no colleges in the area providing that type of class. She says at the time the ordinance was created there was a class at the UW-Fond du Lac, which has since been cancelled. The amended ordinance allows comparable training. She says there is a beekeeping organization, which has now stepped forward to offer that training. The East Central Wisconsin Beekeepers Association will be holding a class that begins on February 4th. The three-part course Beekeeping 101 will begin with a two-part class on Saturday, February 4th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fond du Lac Skyport. The final part is a field day in July.
