Beware Of Scammers Posing As FDL County Sheriff’s Deputies

The Fond du Lac Police Department is warning residents of a scam that had the potential of a local man losing $5,000. Officers were informed Saturday morning by a 42-year old male, who said he had received a call from a male, who told him he was a Deputy with the FDL County Sheriff’s Department, and that he needed to go to the bank to get $5,000 in cash for payment of two outstanding warrants. The scammer also told the victim to “stay on the line or you would be held in contempt of court.” The victim was also concerned because the scam caller knew where he worked. When officers called the number back, and informed the scammer who they were, the person hung up the phone. The incident remains under investigation.
