Beware of Thin Ice

We are still a few days away from Thanksgiving
– but there are already warnings being issued about thin ice forming around the
area. There haven’t been any major incidents, but some people may be tempted to
venture onto the ice.

Right now, ice in some areas is about an inch thick – but
you can still see a lot of open water. At least 4 inches is needed to hold an
average person, 5 to 6 inches for an ATV or snowmobile, and 8 to 12 inches to
hold a car or small truck.

It’s also recommended to bring small ice picks and a
whistle in the case that you may fall through the ice and be unable to yell for
help.
