Big Brothers Big Sisters Lobster Boil A Success

“It takes a village to raise a child” is an old African Proverb.  The Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Fond du Lac County’s ‘village’ was in full force at their 11th Annual Lobster Boil and Auction.  Whether it be the myriad of volunteers that helped with the event, the money spent on a chance to win a Box of Rocks, a fantastic party cooler, multiple baskets, auction items and/or a Sponsor a Match, the BBBS ‘village’ was FABULOUS!  “We raised just shy of $48,000 for the kids in our program, said Tammy Young, Executive Director for BBBS.  “I am blown away by the generosity of the Fond du Lac Community.  Words simply cannot express our thanks.”

As part of this year’s Lobster Boil, BBBS had some very special helpers that planned and organized an event for the 52 kids on the BBBS waiting list (down from 69 last November).  The event, sponsored by Agnesian’s In-Patient Pharmacy and spearheaded by BBBS ‘Big’ Kayli Posvic and ‘Little’ Martha, had participants making beaded bracelets that were later used in the Box of Rocks giveaway.

“We decided to try something different for this year’s Lobster Boil” said Young.  “Each year attendees for the Lobster Boil purchase a chance to win a gorgeous piece of jewelry as part of the BBBS ‘Box of Rocks’ raffle.  In the past, many of the 200 boxes sold at the Lobster Boil were empty.  This year, we decided to fill all boxes sold, many containing bracelets made from our very own ‘Littles’.  Kayli, Martha and our friends from the Agnesian In-Patient Pharmacy, made the entire thing possible by donating supplies and making bracelets.  I love the fact that we were able to showcase our ‘Littles’ at this year’s event.  They are truly what our program is all about.”
