Black Maria Film Festival Stopping in FDL Tonight

The nationally touring Black Maria Film Festival is making
its only stop in Wisconsin
tonight – at the UW-Fond du Lac campus. This is the 37th year the
festival has traveled around the country – and they have been coming to Fond du Lac for nearly a
decade.

Special Events Coordinator Kathy Strong-Langolf says it features over
100 minutes of short films that are “
submitted from everywhere
– from
Italy, California, Canada,
Spain, Maryland, and more. I think the only country
that didn’t submit is
Argentina,
so almost every country submits to this festival.”

She adds that “we’ve brought this festival to Fond du Lac for almost ten years now. The festival reaches out to diverse audiences in diverse setting, including universities, museums, libraries, and art venues. It’s been traveling around the country every year for decades. So it’s focusing on short films that are anywhere from three to fifteen minutes – they’re narrative, experimental, animation, and documentary.”

Strong-Langolf also invites anyone from the public to check it out, especially because it’s free. She says “the full film festival will be in the evening in the Prarie Theater – and that’s from 6:30pm until about 8:00, 8:15pm – I think we have 115 minutes of films. So again it’s free, it’s sponsored by the fine arts and lecture committee. And it’s the only stop in Wisconsin for this Black Maria Film Festival.”
