Bob Haase Another Can Of Worms

Go Fish!

I have fished since I was five years old.  My parents, grandparents, relatives, and friends have all taken me fishing when I was younger.  I guess in some ways I have just taken it for granted and it is something I have enjoyed my entire life.  There are a lot of people like me that have enjoyed fishing their entire life, and yet there are so many others that have never ever gone fishing.

Most of the people that have never gone fishing don’t know what they are missing.  Many of them would not have any idea where to start…. what to buy…. and where to go.  That is where people that do fish can help.  Maybe the best thing you could do is to take a friend, relative, neighbor, or someone you work with fishing.  Better yet take them and their children and introduce the entire family to fishing.  The first thing they will find out is that it is a lot of fun.  Most people that I have taken fishing can’t get over how much fun it is and they wonder why they have never done it before.

Fishing has a lot of rewards besides putting a nice meal of fish on the table.  It is one of the best stress relievers I know of.  We all face stresses in our lives and some people don’t seem to know where or how to relieve those stresses.  When we are having fun fishing we not only forget about some of our stresses, we also have a better appreciation for nature and the other good things on life.

If you have children one of the best things you can do is to take them fishing.  I liked competitive sports so well in high school that I forged a doctors signature to play football even though I had a heart murmur.  When I got caught I was expelled for three days which gave me three more days to go fishing.  When you are watching your children play competitive sports you cannot talk to them the same way you can while you are sitting on a bank or in a boat fishing with them.  It is also good to invite your children’s friends along because it can give you and opportunity to learn more about the friends your children are associating with.

If you fish, think about introducing a friend to the sport of fishing this summer.  The person you introduce may even become your best fishing partner.  If  life has become so busy that you haven’t had the time to fish it is a sign you are too busy and you need to go.  Life really is too short and we need to include some fun things such as fishing.  Fishing is something like retirement…. most people that retire wish they had done it sooner and the same goes for fishing.
