Bob Haase’s Another Can of Worms

The Truth is Somewhere In the Middle

I have a friend that when asked about what he thinks on a subject often replies that the truth is somewhere in the middle. The more I think about it, the more I agree with him.  Part of the reason for me saying this, is that so many people have forgotten the value of telling the truth.  Look back at the political campaigns and think about how many of the statements made by the candidates were almost the truth!

I, like many other people, get a number of E-mails telling about problems or situations and asking us to pass it on.  I don’t pass anything on, but I do take the time to check out and find out how true it is.  I wish people that did pass this stuff on would take the time to go to Snopes.com to see if what they are passing on is the truth.

This just happened to me yesterday when I received an E-mail about the new 2.3 percent Medical Excise Tax that showed up on a Cabela’s purchase in Texas.  The E-mail said that everyone as of January 1st., was going to have to pay a Medical Excise Tax, as part of Obama Care.  In checking this out it was partially true.  Cabela’s made a mistake in their sales software in Texas and has since corrected the problem.  It just applies to the purchase of medical equipment and it applies primarily to health care operations.  What makes this partially true is that the medical providers will just pass this tax on to the patients, so we will in the end be paying for it.

We have heard a lot about the Mining Bill and we were told that it would not be detrimental to the environment and that there were provisions in the bill to protect the environment.  Now that the bill passed the Senate  the Madison Times just carried a story quoting Representative Tom Tiffany, the main author of the bill, stating that the mine would result in environmental damage, which was contrary to public statements earlier. This was done now so that if a legal challenge is made later the judge would have to recognize legislative intent rather than review the law.  By not quite telling the truth and misleading people and now disclosing it, a judge can’t find fault if the environment is impacted.  I wonder why people don’t trust government?

Wisconsin Senator Nikiya Harris, and Representatives Mandela Barnes, Evan Goyke, and Fred Kessler are sponsoring a bill that would prohibit the sale or possession of any hollow point bullets, or bullets that expand.  This bill would be in conflict with current Wisconsin DNR regulations that ban the use of non expanding bullets because it reduces the chances of a clean kill.  Could a bill like this unintentionally or intentionally lead to eliminating hunting in Wisconsin?   I wonder why some sports men and women think that they are trying to eliminate hunting in Wisconsin and take away their rights when a bill like this is presented?  When legislators make misleading statements that are somewhere in the middle, they lose the trust of  people and that is what makes simple gun legislation more difficult.

Both political parties argue their points and make statements that are almost true so that the public has no idea who is telling the truth.  You see, the truth lies somewhere in the middle!  Part of their statements are true and the other part is a lie.  We just have to try to figure out what part is true and what part is a lie.  Not enough people hold them accountable, so they can say whatever they want!
