Autopsy Performed on Body Found Sunday In Lake Winnebago

An autopsy has been completed on the man found Sunday afternoon in Lake Winnebago.

Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt issued a statement Monday (4/25/2022) saying the the autopsy had been completed and preliminary findings show no sign of injury or trauma.  Detectives are notifying next of kin and continuing their investigation to determine circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.  Waldschmidt said, “We do not believe there is any threat to the public and foul play is not suspected at this time.”

 The identity of the victim, a 57 year old Fond du Lac man, will be released after next of kin notification is made and further investigation is conducted.  No further information can be shared at this time, as the case remains open and active.

ORIGINAL INFORMATION:

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department was notified Sunday, April 24, 2022, at 4:00pm, by a citizen reporting the finding of what he believed to be a body partially submerged in the water along the shoreline of Lake Winnebago at N7595 Lakeshore Dr. in the town of Friendship. 

Deputies, detectives and an investigator from the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and confirmed the body was that of an adult male.  Preliminary identification has been made, however until the Medical Examiner confirms the identity of the victim, the name will not be released. 

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning, and a deputy will remain at the scene where the victim was found pending the outcome of the autopsy.
