BREAKING: Shots Fired, Officer Down

A state trooper was shot and a suspect in a bank robbery may have been killed in a shoot out with police in Fond du Lac this evening. The officer was flown out by a Flight for Life helicopter to a hospital. Fond du Lac Assistant Police Chief Steve Klein says the state’s Department of Criminal Investigation has taken over the investigation of the shooting.  It was reported that the standoff may have involved a suspect in an earlier robbery in Marinette County who was spotted by state troopers in Fond du Lac. Among agencies responding to the scene were Fond du Lac Police, Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, the State Patrol, Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue, SWAT teams and the state’s Department of Criminal Investigation.


According to KFIZ’s Bob Nelson, an officer was shot and a suspect is dead after police tracked down a bank robbery suspect in Fond du Lac on Tuesday. The incidents happened near the Peters Ave and W Johnson Street intersection, close to the West Johnson Street Pick N’ Save. Police got a report that a bank robbery suspect found his way from Marinette to Fond du Lac and there was a confrontation. At least one police officer was shot. Flight for Life has been utilized. A number of police agencies remain on the scene and the area will be closed for quite some time.
