Browser Open Coming Up At The FDL Public Library

The Friends of the Fond du Lac Public Library will be hosting the third annual Browser Open Sunday March 18th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the library. The 18-hole, par-three mini-golf course wends its way around bookcases, computers and furniture throughout the downtown facility’s three levels. It’s named after the Library mascot Browser the dog. Barbara Lucas is the President of the Friends of the Library. She says people of all ages participate in the fundraiser. She says, “I was particularly moved by two elderly gentlemen who came to play mini-golf and one of them, he was with his friend. And he said his friend had Alzheimer’s and he used to play proper golf and he couldn’t do that anymore, but he thought this might be something he would enjoy and they did.” Lucas is originally from the United Kingdom and has lived at 23 different places during her lifetime. She has always been a library patron and was particularly impressed with Fond du Lac’s Public Library, so she joined the friends’ group. She says, “I was really surprised at what a great library Fond du Lac had when I got here in 1987 and so it seemed to me a very natural thing to do to be a life member in support of the library. “ Tickets at the door the day of the event are $5 for adults and $3 for those 17 and younger. There will also be a 19th Hole, which will offer lunch items, drinks, bake sale items, door prizes and raffles. Proceeds will help support library programs like the Summer Reading program.
