Buckeyes use Big Second Half to Down Badgers in B1G Title Game

Big Ten Championship Game: 

Ohio State 34, Wisconsin 21

–The Badgers led 21-7 at halftime, but it was all Buckeyes in the second half as Ohio State outscored Wisconsin 27-0 in the second half to win the Big Ten Championship and claim a spot in the College Football Playoff. 

Jonathan Taylor ran for 148 yards and a score on the game’s opening drive to put the Badgers up 7-0. Jack Coan ran for two scores in the second quarter to put Wisconsin up by the two-score margin at halftime. 

Ohio State came back in a big way in the second half – scoring 10 points in under five minutes to pull within 21-17. The Buckeyes took their first lead of the game with 2:23 to play in the third on a 16 yard touchdown pass from Justin Fields to KJ Hill. A 10 point fourth quarter sealed the victory for the Buckeyes and their third straight Big Ten title. 

Wisconsin drops to 10-3, and still has a shot at a New Year’s Day bowl game. Ohio State is 13-0, and will likely be one of the top two seeds for the College Football Playoff. Playoff matchups and Bowl Games will be announced Sunday. 

NCAA Division 3 Playoffs: 

UW-Whitewater 26, Mary Hardin-Baylor 7

–Jarrod Ware ran for two scores as the Warhawks knocked out the defending D-3 National Champs to advance to this year’s Final Four. Whitewater will play St. John’s of Minnesota in the National Semifinals next week.
