Bullpen Can’t Close the Door in Dock Spider Loss

FOND DU LAC, WI – The Green Bay Rockers used a three-run eighth inning to come back and defeat the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 3-2 on Tuesday night at Herr-Baker Field.

The loss for the Dock Spiders ended their four-game winning streak, putting them at 15-13 on the year, while the Rockers improved to 10-20.

Jacob Conover (2-1, Walters State) took the win in relief for the Rockers, while Andrew Pogue (0-3, Illinois) took the loss for the Dock Spiders. Cash Rugely (Kansas State) tallied his second multi-hit game of the season, tallying two singles. Cole Messina also continued his torrid stretch at the plate, tallying his sixth extra-base hit over the last three games with a double in the fourth.

Both teams went scoreless for the first four innings before the Dock Spiders took a 1-0 lead off a sacrifice fly from Kyte McDonald (Wichita State) to bring home the run. The Dock Spiders would bring home their second run of the game in the seventh when Connor Manthey (Bradley) doubled home Rugely.

In the eighth inning, the Rockers would strike back with an RBI single, a sacrifice fly and an RBI double to take a 3-2 lead. Conover would go the rest of the way, striking out four over the final two innings.

The Dock Spiders continue their five-game home stand tomorrow with the start of a two-game set with the Kamalazoo Growlers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Tomorrow night is also Girls Night Out at the ballpark, with special ticket packages available at the box office.
