Burning Pole Shuts Down I-41 For 8 Hours Tuesday

A power pole that caught fire was the cause for an 8-hour closure of Interstate 41, south of Fond du Lac, Tuesday.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department was notified just after 4:00 p.m. of the burning pole, located on I-41 near Church Road in the Town of Byron.

When Deputies arrived they found the pole had been snapped in two and was on fire, causing live electrical wires to hang over I-41.

Both the north and south lanes of the interstate were closed, with a detour set up using Hwy. 175.

WE Energies worked into the night to replace the pole and to make sure everything was back in working order and safe.

Assistance at the scene was provided by the Eden Fire Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Office, Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Lomira Police Department, Wisconsin DNR, and the Fond du Lac County Highway Department.
