Catfish Season Approved by DNR

Emergency regulations have been approved by Wisconsin wildlife officials – to establish catfish
seasons. A law signed by Governor Scott Walker this spring authorized the DNR
to create regulations for the catching of catfish by hand, with a bow, or with
a crossbow. The catfish season will run from June 1st thru August 31st

Hand-fishers would not be allowed to use nets, ropes, snorkels, or other diving
equipment. The bow-fishing season will run with the rough-fish spearing season,
and most Wisconsin counties have a continuous
open spearing season. DNR officials hope to enact regulations on an emergency
basis to protect catfish over the winter as well – and to have permanent rules
ready by next fall.
