Charges Filed In Fatal Hit & Run

(Berlin, WI) – The City of Berlin Police Department along with the Berlin Ambulance Service responded to an emergency call near the intersection of Center St. and E. Moore St., on a report of a subject being struck by a motor vehicle on Sunday, September 1st about 2:17pm. Upon arrival a 21 year-old Oshkosh, formerly of Berlin, man was found to be struck by a motor vehicle and was suffering from multiple injuries. This subject was airlifted to a Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

 

The investigation has led to the arrest of Tiffany A. Rodriguez, age 22 of Oshkosh, also formerly of Berlin, the operator of the striking vehicle. Rodriguez has been charged with First Degree Reckless Homicide, and is currently being held on a $50,000 dollar cash bond at the Green Lake County Jail.

 

The victim has been identified as Eric N. Gonzales, age 21 of Oshkosh.

 

Rodriguez and Gonzales have been in relationship for several years and have a child together.

The incident started when Rodriguez confronted Gonzales at an apartment complex over Gonzales taking money from her earlier in the day. The confrontation occurred in the apartment complex parking lot, near the intersection of E. Marquette St. and Center St. The argument continued over the money and other subjects got involved. Gonzales then fled the area on foot running southbound on Center St.

 

Captain Kevin Block of the Berlin PD States, “witnesses have informed us that once Gonzales ran on foot, Rodriguez en! tered her vehicle, which was parked in the parking lot, and sped off i n the direction Gonzales was running.” Block further states that witnesses observed Rodriguez traveling at a high rate of speed on Center St, and then struck Gonzales as he was running southbound on Center St.

 

Captain Block states, “There are still several witnesses to interview along with further evidence to be collected and examined.” We ask if anyone witnessed this incident or has information to please contact the Berlin Police Department at (920) 361-2121.

 

Mr. Gonzales was taken to the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office, where cause of death was determined to be from injuries sustained when Tiffany Rodriguez struck Mr. Gonzales with her car.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting with accident reconstruction. The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Department also assisted at the crime scene.
