Charter Bus Fire In Washington County

Fire destroyed a coach style bus on Highway 41 southbound in Washington’s County’s Town of Addison Sunday afternoon. Sheriff’s officials say all passengers were safely evacuated from the bus, which was heading from Oshkosh to Atlanta, Georgia. Two passengers were taken to the Aurora Medical Center in Hartford for precautionary reasons, they were treated and released. The bus fire and a small adjacent grass fire were extinguished. The bus was from Georgia and had two drivers and 56 passengers on it. All of the passengers were from England. They were taken to the St. Lawrence Fire Department by another bus that had stopped to assist. The Red Cross supplied the passengers with food and water until arrangements could be made for another charter bus to take them to Atlanta. Officials say it appears a rear tire went flat causing the fire. The bus was completely destroyed.
