Children’s Hospital investigating Hospitalizations Possibly Caused by Vaping

The Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Department
of Health Services are partnering to investigate hospitalizations that were
possibly caused by vaping. The hospital reported eight cases of teenagers with
seriously damaged lungs this month. The state had been investigating the
possible causes of those cases, but all eight patients had said they had vaped
in the weeks leading up to being hospitalized. The patients reported symptoms including
shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing and weight loss with varying degree of
severity. E-cigarette cartridges have chemicals that can damage lungs, and the long-term
effects from using them are not fully known.
