Chilton Couple Claims $1 Million Powerball Prize In FDL

State lottery officials introduced
Dennis Brannon and Jody Kalinka of Chilton as winners of a $1 million Powerball
ticket Monday afternoon. The couple bought $20 worth of tickets at Korneli’s
Prairie Express in Fond du Lac for the Saturday, January 31st drawing. Dennis
says they aren’t regular lottery players, but were tempted by a big jackpot. He
works in Fond du Lac and she works in Chilton. They say they will keep working
and invest some of the money towards their retirement. The two will split their
winnings, which comes to about $338,000 a piece. Each told one other person they
could trust about their good luck before coming forward to claim their prize.
Korneli’s also got a $20,000 commission check for selling the winning ticket.
Owner Steve Korneli said they heard a lot of stories, but didn’t know who the
winners were until they came forward Monday for the symbolic check presentation.
Korneli’s store on South Main Street in Fond du Lac recently sold a $10,000
scratch off ticket. Steve Korneli says it’s nice to see big winners in the
lottery in Fond du Lac again.

Each got a symbolic check.

Steve Korneli gets a commission check from Wisconsin Lottery Deputy Director Jean Adler.
