Christian Home And Rehabilitation Center Groundbreaking

Several years of intensive planning is now paying off as Agnesian HealthCare and Christian Home & Rehabilitation Center supporters prepare to break ground along Highway 68 on a new 89,000-square-foot facility that will help deliver quality long-term care services well into the future.

The public is invited to attend a brief groundbreaking ceremony at 5 p.m. on Monday, September 25. Participants can enter by the existing Christian Homestead (memory care), 1001 W. Brown Street, Waupun. On-site parking is limited; guests are encouraged to park on West Brown Street and South Harris Avenue if possible.

Construction is set to begin in September 2017 with expected completion by late 2018. The new $22.4 million facility will feature:

  •              50-bed replacement nursing home
  •              30-apartment assisted living facility
  •              18-bed memory care facility (adjacent to existing 18-bed memory care facility)

The nursing home will feature all private rooms, each containing a private bathroom with an ADA accessible shower. It will include two wings for long-term residents and a short-stay rehabilitation wing with a 2,436-square-foot rehabilitation gym. Rehabilitation services will be provided on both an outpatient and inpatient basis.

Attached to the nursing home will be a new two-story assisted living facility featuring two studio apartments, 26 single bedroom apartments, and two, two-bedroom apartments. The assisted living facility will also contain a library/media center, a fitness center and common areas for socializing.

The campus will feature a central core area with a chapel, kitchen, administrative offices, gift shop, bistro and a two-story atrium lobby.

And, finally, the construction of an 18-bed memory care facility will expand Agnesian HealthCare’s memory care services in Waupun to 36 beds.

“We are so very proud to bring this new facility to the Waupun community,” according to Doug Trost, St. Francis Home president and chief executive officer. “The community has been so incredibly supportive of the Christian Home, and we are excited with the new opportunities this state-of-the-art, long-term care facility will offer to older adults and their families. We are blessed to have reached this landmark thanks to the hard-working and faithful support of so many people.”

The Christian Home & Rehabilitation Center was founded more than 70 years ago by area churches. Following a capital campaign and the purchase of 10 acres of land in December 2016, planning continued to introduce this new facility within the city of Waupun.

“The thought of the Waupun community having a state-of-the-art, long-term care facility has been a dream of ours for quite some time,” says Susan Buwalda, Christian Home & Rehabilitation Center Board of Directors past president. “We know that the wait will be worth the final product – a facility that we will all be proud of, and one that will best serve our needs.”

The new facility continues to reflect Agnesian HealthCare’s commitment to offering long-term care now and well into the future.

“We’re building not only for Waupun; we’re building for the surrounding area; we’re building for the future,” according to Steve Little, Agnesian HealthCare president and chief executive officer. “As Waupun grows, we will grow. As the Christian Home and Waupun Memorial Hospital grows, the dedication and commitment of the Agnesian HealthCare will also grow. Together, we hope to be here a long time to provide high quality of care in this modern facility utilizing the latest in long-term care approaches.”
