Christmas Tree Safety Partnership

Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue is partnering with Shriner’s Hospital for Children and local Christmas tree sellers to remind residents about fire safety this holiday season. It is a way to educate people who buy real trees to keep their trees watered and away from heat sources. Division Chief Troy Haase says ornaments have been distributed to the owners of A&W and Gilles to pass out to residents who buy trees off their lots this season. Each ornament features the Shriner’s bear and Christmas tree safety messages. On average there are 200 home structure fires each year involving Christmas trees, resulting in 6 deaths and 16 injuries.
