City Manager Announces Fireworks Show Cancelled In FDL

The City of Fond du Lac is releasing
updated information within the city that includes the cancellation of the 4th
of July Fireworks celebration. In a press release, City Manager Joe Moore said,
while many facilities have already returned to full operations, with additional
precautions in place, many of the other facilities have plans to reopen or
increase their operations over the next few weeks, once safety plans have been
put in place.

Here is an update of
operations and activities that still impact the public and a summary of upcoming plans:

• Park rentals,
playgrounds, most restrooms, and sport facilities are now open to the public,
with the exception of the Lighthouse.

• Taylor Park Pool will
open on June 15th. There will be capacity restrictions and other precautions in
place to allow social distancing, per the recommendations from local health
officials. More information is available at www.fdlrecdept.com.

Fairgrounds Family
Aquatic Center

will not open this year. This is not directly related to COVID- 19, but because
we are experiencing a severe lifeguard shortage. Lifeguard shortages have
affected pool openings nationwide, not only here in Fond du Lac.

• Lakeside Park Splash Pad
will open on June 12th. The City will post a COVID-19 list of guidelines to
follow.

• July 4th Fireworks have
been cancelled. We are very disappointed that we will not able to celebrate
Independence Day with our traditional fireworks show, but this decision was
made due to the risk of spreading COVID-19 and is consistent with public health
guidance regarding mass gathering.

Fond du Lac Area Transit has resumed all
regular routes. Passengers are asked to load through the back door when
possible until July 1st and to avoid the first three seats behind the driver so
they may maintain social distancing during their route. Fares will be collected
again starting July 1st. Please visit www.fdl.wi.gov/transit/ or
www.facebook.com/fonddulactransit/ for ongoing updates.

Fond du Lac Public Library is now open to the
public with capacity restrictions and limited services. More information on
their available programs can be found at www.fdlpl.org.

• The Fond du Lac Senior
Center
continues to offer
the “take-out” dining programs and is working towards safely reopening some
programs on July 1st. New information will be posted at
www.fdl.wi.gov/senior-center/ and www.facebook.com/FondduLacSeniorCenter/ as it
becomes available.
