City Of FDL Has To Bypass Waste Water Treatment Process Due To Heavy Rains

Due to the high volume of water from heavy weekend rains the City of Fond du Lac had to bypass some of its waste water treatment process. Public Works Director Jordan Skiff says they recorded about 4 inches of rain at the treatment plant over the weekend.  Clear water getting into the sanitary sewer system was pumped into the storm water system, but that wasn’t enough and they had to bypass some of the treatment process at the plant blending partially and fully treated waste water and sending it into Lake Winnebago. He says the plant recorded its highest volume of water going through between 12 and 1 a.m. Monday morning 54 millions gallons a day, compared to a daily average of about 6 million gallons. Skiff says there was some street flooding in spots including 9th Street and the north section of Prairie Road, but the biggest problem is basement back ups. The City’s permit with the DNR allows it to do bypass of the regular treatment process under such circumstances. Photo courtesy of Fire Chief Peter O’Leary.
