City Of FDL Will File For Water Rate Increase

The Fond du Lac City Council last night approved a resolution to submit a water rate increase application to the state’s Public Service Commission. The City will be asking for a 6.9 percent increase, which would work out to $8.09 more a quarter for a typical residential customer or about $2.69 more per month. City Resident Charles Mauch says the City shouldn’t be raising its rates. Director of Administration Hal Wortman says the City can’t push the rate increase off any longer. City rate consultant John Mayer says raising rates will generate the revenue needed to pay for normal expenses of the utility, otherwise the City would need to borrow the money which would increase the debt service. It’s anticipated that the City will file for the rate increase with the Public Service Commission on August 1st.
