Civilian Saves Kids who Fell Through Ice in FDL

Quick thinking of a citizen helped save two kids who had
fallen through the ice of a pond in the City of Fond du Lac Sunday morning.
Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue was called to the area of 14th Street
and Martin Road around 9 am for a report of two children that had fallen
through the ice and were still trapped in the water. While firefighters were on
the way to the scene – dispatchers informed units that a civilian that was
driving by the scene had stopped and was in the water, working to remove the
children. By the time rescue crews had arrived, the civilian had both children
out of the water. Paramedics treated both the kids and their rescuer on scene. Fond
du Lac Police also assisted at the scene – and contacted the parents of the rescued
kids. Lieutentant Curt Smits said “If the citizen wasn’t passing by at the
moment the kids went into the pond, it could have been a very different outcome.”
