Click It or Ticket Campaign Begins

Fond du Lac area law enforcement will join hundreds of other agencies around the state for the annual Click it or Ticket safety belt enforcement campaign. The effort focusing on Wisconsin’s mandatory safety belt law begins today and runs until June 3rd

Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt says the state’s use of safety belts is on the rise, but it’s still too low. He tells us “about 90% of Wisconsin residents now wear a seatbelt. But we also know that about 50% of the people that die in crashes each year are part of the 10% that don’t wear seatbelts. You can’t dispute the statistics.”

That 90% still lags behind the national average. There were 58,899 traffic convictions for failing to buckle up in the state last year.
