Convicted Horse Abuser Facing New Charges

A man with previous ties to Fond du Lac County who has previously been convicted of sexually assaulting horses is facing new charges in Brown County. Earlier this week 53-year-old Sterling Rachwal was booked into the Brown County Jail on mistreatment of animals, sexual gratification with an animal, and burglary charges. Rachwal has served several stints at Mendota Mental Health Institute. One followed a 1997 conviction in Waupaca County and another after he was found guilty of disorderly conduct in 2010 after he was allegedly found in a Fond du Lac County barn wearing latex gloves. He was released from Mendota in 2015.
