Sturgeon was the main course at the Coleman Cooking Challenge as part of the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers Conference being held in Fond du Lac this week. Team Wisconsin, which consisted of Terry Frey and Wally Banfi of Madison, were declared the winners over Team Indiana.  Team Wisconsin served a five course meal that included; sturgeon, goose, wild turkey, surgeon caviar and duck. Frey says that finding a good recipe for sturgeon was a challenge.  Each year a secret ingredient is given to the contestants that is unique to the area of the conference.  Bill Casper of Sturgeons for Tomorrow, Paul Cunningham of Schreiner’s Restaurant, and KFIZ”s Wade Bates were the judges of the event. The contest was held at the Holiday Inn in Fond du Lac.
