County Board Approves Medical Marijuana Study Request, Rejects Advisory Referendum

The Fond du Lac County Board is rejecting a resolution calling for an advisory referendum on the legalization and regulation of marijuana. After two citizens came forward against it, a lengthy discussion saw arguments from county supervisors on either side of the issue.

Some supervisors contend that it is not county business, and say the board should not waste their time on the issue – while others say it’s important to hear from constituents and have a government of the people by the people – giving them a chance to express their individual opinions via the referendum. A 16-8 vote rejected the proposal.
Earlier in the evening, the board overwhelmingly approved a resolution to request the Wisconsin state legislature to study the merits of medical marijuana.
