COVID-19 Daily Deaths, Hospitalizations Highest Since February

The state Department of Health Services on Friday reported a new seven-day average of 11 daily deaths – the highest since mid-February. Just over a month ago, the daily average was one death.

DHS reported 37 deaths in July, the lowest since vaccines became available. In August, the total increased to 199. The Wisconsin Hospital Association on Tuesday reported 1,045 COVID-19 patients, the highest since early January.

The numbers are being driven up due to the more contagious delta variant and low vaccination rates, with only a little over 52 percent of the state fully vaccinated.
