COVID Cancelled Walleye Weekend, But Virtual Events Still Take Place

After the cancellation of Walleye Weekend, Fond du Lac Festivals (FFI) is rolling out some new “distanced” event experiences in the coming weeks.  With support from sponsors and event partners, FFI is setting up the first ever Virtual Walleye Run/Walk, a Virtual Family Fishing Tournament – designed to encourage youth to get out and fish, as well as a  Drive-in Movie Experience scheduled for three nights at the end of August being referred to as the Lakeside Triple Feature.  “These are just a couple of safe ways to get back into the spirit of Walleye Weekend and get the whole family moving and engaged again after a few difficult months”, explained Executive Director, Peter Wilke.

Fond du Lac Festivals will also be offering a fun way to donate to local non-profit groups.  A virtual Walleye Weekend Concessions ordering system will be set up where you can order virtual items you would normally enjoy at Walleye Weekend.  With any donation order of $50 or more, you will receive a Limited-Edition Walleye Weekend “Gold Supporter” tee shirt.

Non-profit organizations have had more difficulty this year as they find new solutions for fund-raising. FFI’s mission is to support local and regional non-profits through the creation of safe, fun, and affordable family-friendly festivals for Fond du Lac and the surrounding communities.  Public health and safety will continue to be a priority and FFI is working with the Fond du Lac County Health Department to ensure FFI adheres to the proper guidance for these new events.
