CWD In Washington County

Officials at the state’s Department of Ag, Trade and Consumer Protection say a white-tailed deer from a breeding farm near Kewaskum has tested positive for chronic wasting disease. The buck was born in May of 2105 and apparently died following a fight with another deer. The deer had previously appeared healthy. The deer was tested for CWD in accordance with state rules that require farm-raised deer or elk to be sampled when they die or are killed. The farm, which had 58 white tails and 13 elk, has been quarantined. This is the first time CWD has been detected in Washington County.
