DATCP Continues Scam Warnings

Scammers are always finding new and different ways to trick consumers into handing over money, but many tactics remain similar – with better technology.

Jerad Albrecht from the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection says to not give out any personal or banking information – especially if it’s to an unsolicited caller. He says “you want to be on the lookout for anyone who contacts you out of the blue by any means, and is looking for any of those types of information. And even if they claim they are part of a government agency or a business that you have a relationship with already.”

Albrecht adds that scammers also have technology to disguise phone numbers and caller ID’s as those of different stores and companies. Most companies and agencies will not call you to obtain that information.
