DATCP Warns of Fake Invoice Scam

The state’s Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection
Department is warning consumers about a phony invoice scam. Michelle Reinen is
the Director of the Consumer Protection Bureau. She says the scam involves
emails for invoices for music or apps. Reinen says “They are supposedly sending
you an invoice and it is a fake email invoice saying you purchased stuff from
them and you need to pay up now. “ She says they are trying to get you to click
on a link to make a payment or tell them the purchase wasn’t authorized. She
says either way they want you to click on a link so they can load malware on
your computer or device.
