Deadline to Apply for Upriver Lakes Sturgeon Spearing License Approaching

The deadline for sturgeon spearers to apply for a 2020 license
for the Upriver Lakes is approaching quickly. The Department of Natural
Resources says Spearers have until August 1st to apply for a license
or purchase a preference point to be
used in future drawings. The chance to take part in the spearing season on lakes
Butte des Morts, Winneconne and Poygan this coming February is controlled
through a preference point system, where applicants who have the most points
are given priority in the drawing. All applicants are notified whether they
were drawn for a license and authorized to purchase one by October 1st.
Anyone who is not drawn for a license an Upriver Lakes license can still
purchase a license for Lake Winnebago by the October 31st deadline.
Spearers can only buy a license for either Lake Winnebago or the Upriver Lakes,
not both. Spearers can apply for the license drawing or purchase a preference point online or by visiting a license agent or DNR service center.
