Deadly Crash Closes Lanes On I-41 For 8 Hours

A Tuesday evening accident takes the life of one person on I-41. The three-vehicle crash happened about 9:15 p.m., on I-41, just south of Hwy. 26 in the Town of Nekimi, with one of the vehicles starting on fire. Drivers of two of the vehicles were not injured in the crash, while the driver of the vehicle that erupted into flames, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation shows a passenger vehicle entered I-41 by traveling southbound in the northbound ramp. The vehicle collided in what authorities say was a “near head on” manner with a semi-truck. The passenger vehicle caught fire as a result of the crash. A second crash occurred when a second vehicle ran into debris from the first crash, lying in the road. The driver of that vehicle was not injured. The northbound lanes of I-41 were closed until just after 5:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. The crash remains under investigation.
