DEC Reports Contains Good Ideas

The chairman of the Downtown Exploratory Committee says there are some exciting ideas in the more than 40 recommendations they made to the Fond du Lac City Council. Sam Meyer says supporting new residential development is one of their main recommendations he says condo platting would allow the upper floors of buildings to be used with the owners selling the upper floors for development. He says those upper floor spaces would likely have a residential use. He says a couple of recommendations piqued his interest. He says the promotion of a downtown brew pub/winery/distillery could be a draw for the downtown. He also says identifying a building to be used as an indoor public market for multiple vendors could work similar to the Milwaukee Public Market. A suggestion of a walking bridge to Hamilton Park could also spur use of the park. A copy of the committee’s final report can be found on the City’s website.
