Decision Made To Not Sound Tornado Drill Sirens

Thursday was the date of the statewide tornado drill in conjunction with Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The drills occurred at 1:45 pm and 6:45 pm and while the outdoor warning sirens were scheduled to be sounded in Fond du Lac County, they were not.

Director of Communications and Emergency Management Bobbi Hicken, in cooperation with Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue, determined that that the sirens should not be sounded as part of the drills due to the active
situation at Milk Specialties that lasted throughout both drill times.

Director Hicken stated, “Sounding the sirens as part of the drill during an active event could cause further confusion or panic to those affected, and we wanted to ensure that did not happen.”

As a reminder, most outdoor warning sirens in Fond du Lac County are sounded at noon on Saturdays to test their functionality.
