Del Monte to Sell Corn Packing Plant in Cambria, Close Two Other Midwest Facilities

The parent company of Del Monte Foods says it will sell a
corn packing plant in Wisconsin and close two others in the midwest. Del Monte
Pacific, Ltd. announced this week that the corn packing plant in Cambria will
be sold following the current pack season. The company also announced the closing
of a plant in Mendota, Illinois and a plant in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. The
closing of the Mendota plant was said to be “part of a restructuring”, which a
company spokesman said was “a necessary step . . . to remain competitive in a
rapidly changing marketplace.” Production at the locations that are closing will
be transitioned to other Del Monte production facilities in the United States. Information
on a potential buyer for the Cambria facility was not provided.
