Democrats Ask Republicans In WI To Support Gun Measures

Amid ongoing gun violence, and in response to the Uvalde school massacre, Democrats in the Wisconsin legislature are demanding Republicans join them in supporting gun safety measures.

Senator Melissa Agard of Madison said, “What we need to prevent is the guns in the hands of people who are danger to themselves and a danger to our communities. We absolutely want our schools to be more safe, but it’s not by eliminating the number of doors. It’s not . . . bringing more armed people around a school.”

Democrats are asking for Universal Background Checks on all firearm purchases and Extreme Risk Protection, or “Red Flag” Orders. Those measures were part of a special session called by Governor Tony Evers in 2019, which Republicans did not act on.
