Despite Recent Large Social Gatherings, Health Department Says Guidance Has Not Changed

Fond du Lac County has been at Phase 3 of the Safe Restart plan going on two weeks now, and with a sizeable crowd on hand at the St. Pat’s Parade over the weekend, could we see larger gatherings being the norm in the near future?

Danielle Vollendorf is the Environmental Health Program Supervisor with the FDL County Health Department. She tells KFIZ News they have not changed their guidance surrounding upcoming graduation ceremonies and commencements.  Vollendorf said the Health Department shared guidance last spring, and that  guidance has not changed.  Vollendorf also said they  continue to be a resource for K12’s and Higher Eds when they have questions on events, and said  they were successful last spring and anticipate this will be the case again holding safe events with COVID in mind.

“We continue to educate and provide information on how to successfully host large events within our communities.  The coordinators/directors of these events have been in touch with the health department to ask for best practices and how to safely host events.  Again, guidance for these events have not changed nor has our messaging.  We use what has been shared previously and have open dialogue on their strategies being put into place to host a safe event.”

With the change in the phases within the Fond du Lac County Safe Restart Plan, FDL County Health Department is asking people to become familiar with these phases and implement these mitigation strategies.  Vollendorf says “We also do a social media push when these are changed as well as following up with website and email updates to our community event organizers, businesses, and municipalities.”
