Names Released In Fatal FDL Car/Moped Accident

The Fond du Lac Police Department has released more information surrounding a Saturday morning accident involving a vehicle and a moped shut down parts of S. Pioneer Rd. The accident occurred about 10:25 a.m., near the intersection of S. Pioneer and Forest. Ave.

It was first thought that a car had run into a bicyclist, but once officers and paramedics arrived at the scene, they found a heavily damaged moped in the intersection, with the occupant of the moped lying on the road, 62-year old Thomas L. Norton of Fond du Lac, unconscious. Further investigation showed that Norton was stopped at the intersection, and attempted to make a left hand turn to travel south on Pioneer Rd. A vehicle being driven by a 74-year old North Fond du Lac male was traveling north on Pioneer Rd. and had the right of way, when Norton pulled out in front of the vehicle, causing the crash. Norton was transported to the Fond du Lac County Airport by Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue, then flown to Theda Care Regional Hospital, where he died Saturday afternoon.
