Differing Views on State Job Cuts

Democrats
and Republicans in the State Senate differ over a proposal to eliminate state
jobs in the Republican Senate version of the State Budget. State Senator Dan
Feyen says their version proposes eliminating 20 jobs and the 416 jobs the
Governor had proposed adding in his version of the budget. Feyen says it is one
of the things he fought for. He says he lobbied other Senators to make sure
they had net-zero state jobs added and they accomplished that. On the other hand, State Senate
Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling says when you eliminate state jobs or allow
open or unfilled state jobs to go unfilled that means the state has to
outsource or privatize some of those jobs, which she feels can be costly in the
long run.
