District Attorney Announces Sentence For Milwaukee Man Charged In Death Of Waupun Man

A Milwaukee man was sentenced to 11 years of prison and 15 additional years of extended supervision, for his role in delivering fentanyl that resulted in the death of a Waupun man.

Sonny V. Lawrence had been convicted of First Degree Reckless Homicide following a 5-day jury trial back in September of last year.

Lawrence had provided the drug that ultimately took the life of Austin Vande Zande, who was found dead in a Fond du Lac residence over two years ago.

In a press release issued Monday, District Attorney Eric Toney stated, “No parent should have to bury their child but too many families have experienced this tragedy from fentanyl poisoning. Fentanyl continues to destroy families at record rates and we will continue to aggressively prosecute those responsible for dealing poison into our communities, including Milwaukee drug dealers like Sonny Lawrence.”

According to Toney, Fond du Lac County saw a total of 16 fentanyl deaths between 200702019, compared to nearly 50 deaths between 2020 and 2021.
