DNR: License Sales On-Par with Last Year, Harvest Numbers for Opening Weekend Down

Preliminary harvest numbers from the opening weekend of the
gun deer hunting season were down sharply from last year. The figures released
by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources show hunters killed 90,286
deer. That number is down 27 percent from the over 123-thousand deer killed over
opening weekend in 2018.

Data from the DNR also shows license sales as of Midnight Sunday are close to
last year’s numbers, but down slightly. Hunters this year had purchased 555,227
licenses, compared to just over 564-thousand last year, a decrease of 1.5
percent.
