Dock Spiders Drop Below .500

FOND DU LAC, WI – The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders fell, 7-2, on the road against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters after the Rafters tallied seven unanswered to sweep the two-game series.

The loss drops the Dock Spiders to .500 for the first time this year at 11-11, while the Rafters continued their torrid start to the year, improving to 21-2 to lead the Great Lakes West Division by 9.5 games. The loss was the third straight for the Dock Spiders.

For the second straight game, Grant Hussey (West Virginia) started the scoring for the Dock Spiders with a solo shot in the first to give the Dock Spiders a 1-0 lead. The home run put him in a tie with Anthony Frechette (George Washington) for the team lead with two homers on the year.

The Rafters would then score seven unanswered runs, including two home runs from Seth Stroh (Wichita State), to take a 7-1 lead. Four runs came in during the third off three hits, an error and two wild pitches.

The Dock Spiders would cut the lead to five in the ninth on a solo home run from Daylen Reyes (UCLA), his first of the summer.

David Hagaman (West Virginia, 1-2) took the loss for the Dock Spiders while Caden Favors (Wichita State, 4-0) earned the win after eight strikeouts in four innings of relief. Andrew Pogue (Illinois) didn’t factor into the decision, but he finished the game for the Dock Spiders with 5.1 innings in relief, the longest relief outing by a Dock Spider this year.

The Dock Spiders continue their five-game road trip tomorrow against the Kalamazoo Growlers in the first of a two-game series. The Growlers currently lead the Great Lakes East Division with a 13-10 record. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. Central Time.
