Dock Spiders Reach Double Figure Wins

FOND DU LAC, WI – Kaleb Hill (Charleston Southern) became the first Dock Spiders pitcher to throw seven innings in a start this year, throwing seven shutout innings in a 5-1 Fond du Lac Dock Spiders victory over the Lakeshore Chinooks at Kapco Park on Saturday night.

The win was the 10th of the year for the Dock Spiders, who remain in second place in the Great Lakes West Division. The loss dropped the Chinooks to 8-12 on the year, moving them to fifth in the Great Lakes West.

Hill, in his first appearance in a Dock Spiders uniform, struck out four and worked around six hits over his seven innings. At the plate, Stephen Schissler (Nova Southeastern) and Kyte McDonald (Wichita State) both tallied multi-hit games. McDonald drove in a season-high three runs, bringing his RBI total to a team-leading 15 on the year.

After a scoreless first three innings, the Dock Spiders struck first in the fifth after Schissler was brought home after his double by a McDonald single. In the seventh, the Dock Spiders would tally another off a sacrifice fly from Jared Payne (Charleston Southern) to make it 2-0. Two innings later, McDonald drove home two with a single, and Luke Novitske (Cal State East Bay) drove in the final Dock Spiders run of the night with a single to right. Novitske’s single extended his hit streak to a season-high five straight games.

Caedon Kottinger (UCLA) and Garrett Houston (Georgia-Gwinnett) combined to allow a run over the final two innings, striking out four without allowing a hit.

Hill (1-0) earned his first win of the year while Tommy Lamb (1-1) took the loss.

The Dock Spiders continue their two-game road trip tomorrow in Madison against the Madison Mallards. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
