Dock Spiders Pick Up Their 20th Win on the Season

FOND DU LAC, WI – The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders started their second half with a 10-6 road win against the Kokomo Jackrabbits on Wednesday night.

The win was the fifth in a row for the Dock Spiders, and was their 20th win of the season. The loss dropped the Jackrabbits to 0-1 in the second half, and saw them drop to 10-26 overall. The 10 runs marked the seventh straight game the Dock Spiders have scored at least seven and the fourth straight they’ve scored in double-digits.

The Dock Spiders used multi-hit nights from Nick Mitchell (Western Illinois), Cole Messina (South Carolina), Daylen Reyes (UCLA) and Andrew Sojka (Cal State Northridge). Mitchell recorded his third-straight three-hit game and notched his team-leading 13th multi-hit game of the year. Sojka also tallied two stolen bases in his first game as a Dock Spider.

Josh Culliver (1-0, Minnesota) recorded his first win in a Dock Spiders uniform while Reece Marley (0-3, Case Western Reserve) took the loss.

The Dock Spiders scored in each of the first four innings and jumped out to an early 6-1 lead. Messina singled home two in the first, Mitchell drove home a run in the second, Reyes drove in two with a double in the third and a wild pitch brought home Mitchell in the fourth.

In the seventh, the Jackrabbits climbed back into the game with a three-run inning to cut the Dock Spiders lead to 6-4. In the eighth, the Dock Spiders would send eight to the plate and scored four, including an RBI hit-by-pitch, a sacrifice fly and an RBI double to extend the lead to 10-4.

The Jackrabbits would take advantage of two errors to bring two across in the eighth inning to cut it to 10-6. Garrett Houston (Georgia-Gwinnett) worked around a two-out single to finish the game with a swinging strikeout.

The Dock Spiders are set to finish the season series with the Jackrabbits tomorrow at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET. Kenny Campbell (UConn) is slated to start for Fond du Lac, while Kokomo has yet to name a starter.
